Description

Vintage Cupid Asleep Art on faux canvas  – In classical mythology, Cupid (Latin Cupīdō [kʊˈpiːdoː], meaning “desire”) is the god of desire, love, attraction and affection. He is often portrayed as the son of the love goddess Venus and the war god Mars. “Cupid Awake” was originally black-and-white photograph by M.B. Parkinson. This is a colorized version of that 1897 photo. It depicts little curly-headed  girl as she sleeps, holding a bow and arrow under her chin. The artist’s name, date, and title are on the front on the bow. Cupid Awake and Asleep were wildly popular in the 1920’s.  They were so popular that over 1/4 of US households had this print in some form in their homes.

I inherited my copies from my mother. The pair, Cupid Awake and Cupid Asleep,  were among her cherished pieces. They hung in antique double frame over her bed. Printing on the back mentions “Prang”. This is a photocopy,  with some minor digital repair applied.

It is adorable and romantic. This would be the perfect gift for your sweethear to  express your love.
